Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist will administer advanced respiratory care therapeutics and diagnostic services with a high level of skill and proficiency. The ideal candidate will integrate knowledge, skills, and experience to promote optimum patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Perform weaning mechanics as ordered with high proficiency in more than 90 percent of ventilator patients cared for.
  • Review the need for continuing ventilator support (i.e. spontaneous breathing trial, weaning) in more than 95 percent of patients cared for with a high degree of proficiency on a daily basis.
  • Routinely develop or refine ventilator care plans and communicate to patient care teams.
  • Perform tests, collect specimens, and validate the quality of results with high proficiency and minimal supervision.
  • Formulate a respiratory care plan for almost all patients based on patient diagnostic data, response to therapy, and physiological profiles.
  • Integrate respiratory care plans into patients' complete care plans.
  • Establish and recommend therapeutic interventions with high proficiency and with minimal supervision.
  • Administer basic and advanced respiratory therapeutic interventions with high proficiency and minimal supervision.
  • Utilize standards, guidelines, protocols, and pathways for optimal care delivery.
  • Incorporate data and information to continually improve care and practice to enhance outcomes.
Requirements
  • Certification - Basic Life Support; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). One of the following (ACLS, PALS, or NRP).
  • Licensure - Licensed Respiratory Therapist Upon Start Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Experience - Two years of critical care experience.
  • Education - Respiratory Therapy Graduate of an accredited CoARC (The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) respiratory care program.
