Key Responsibilities of the Practical Nurse Supervisor

The Practical Nurse Supervisor oversees the nursing team during their shift, ensuring high standards of care for residents. They lead the nursing staff, assign duties to Resident Care Assistants (RCAs) and Medication Technicians (MTs), and manage the overall operations of the Wellness Department during their shift. This role also involves making critical decisions in the absence of senior management.

Core Duties Include:
  • Organizing and delegating tasks to ensure effective coverage during shifts.
  • Supervising the delivery of personal care to residents.
  • Implementing service plans and monitoring residents' health statuses.
  • Leading the team and providing guidance to RCAs/MTs on care standards.
  • Maintaining professionalism in all interactions with residents and their families.
  • Utilizing effective communication techniques in sensitive situations.
  • Reporting any suspected instances of abuse to the appropriate authorities.
  • Administering medications according to physician orders.
  • Documenting medication administration accurately as per company policy.
  • Conducting shift change reports with incoming and outgoing staff.
  • Ensuring the security of medication storage and conducting narcotic counts.
  • Transcribing physician orders and ensuring accuracy in medication records.
  • Responding promptly to emergencies.
  • Training new staff and evaluating their competencies.
  • Monitoring resident charts and reporting significant health changes.
  • Adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
  • Operating medical equipment and maintaining documentation.
  • Reporting incidents as required by state regulations.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Supporting resident-centered activities.
  • Collaborating with team members to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Keeping management informed of any health changes or issues.
  • Participating in team meetings and training sessions.
  • Respecting the heritage and values of residents.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Must hold a valid nursing license in the respective state.
  • Minimum of two years of nursing experience required.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Experience in assisted living or dementia care preferred.
  • Must be in good physical health and able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Completion of drug testing and background checks as required.
