POSITION OVERVIEW


Under the general oversight of the Code Blue Services Manager and the Housing/Peer Services Program Coordinator, the Assistant Manager will work closely with individuals experiencing homelessness to facilitate connections and temporary accommodations at our facility.

The role requires a flexible schedule, including some shift coverage and on-call responsibilities to address the program's needs.

The Assistant Manager will also take charge of recruiting staff and engaging with the community to enlist volunteers, ensuring adequate staffing and meal coordination for guests.

The Code Blue facility operates during cold weather conditions, providing essential services during critical times.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in managing the efforts of staff and volunteers at the Code Blue facility.

Coordinate scheduling with the Director, providing shift coverage as necessary. On-call duties may also be required.

Support the acquisition of self-serve meals and beverages for overnight guests.

Promote awareness of the Code Blue Center throughout the community.

Facilitate group sessions during daytime hours.

Prepare necessary reports for funding agencies.

Assist with scheduling and maintaining the community calendar, including emergency shift coverage.

Determine staffing needs, participate in the hiring process, and oversee training for new employees. Review turnover rates to uphold agency standards and assist with performance evaluations.

Provide training for new and existing staff as required.

Maintain inventory of supplies and prepare purchase orders for necessary items.

Supervise responsibilities as assigned by the Code Blue Services Manager, including timecard and leave approvals.

Oversee all services provided at the Code Blue facility.

Engage in community outreach and collaborate with staff to ensure ongoing community support.


Assist in building and maintaining referral relationships that support guest occupancy to meet the program's financial requirements.

Maintain demographic intake information and reporting.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Perform other tasks as assigned.

SUPERVISORY ROLE:


This position includes direct supervisory responsibilities for employees at the Code Blue facility, including Peer Companions and the SOAR Case Manager. Coordination of information collection or distribution among various agency personnel may also be required.

Operates in accordance with established policies and regulations, requiring judgment, initiative, creativity, and the ability to navigate complex situations and make decisions based on limited precedents.


AUTONOMY AND ACCOUNTABILITY:


Works from broad objectives and varying policies, procedures, and rules with significant functional guidance. Specific cases may be referred to a supervisor for clarification or interpretation. Supervisor reviews focus on achieving objectives rather than the methods used, except when compliance with regulations is necessary.


TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT:
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Demonstrated ability to perform essential functions within each program, including calendar management, email communication, and document creation and editing.

Skills in Electronic Medical Records are required, along with familiarity with general office equipment such as fax machines, computers, and phone systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma/GED is required, with supervisory experience preferred.

A Bachelor's degree in Human Services or a related field is preferred.

Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the New York State public mental health and substance use systems are essential. Lived experience with mental health and homelessness is preferred.

Knowledge of advocacy, self-help, and empowerment programs for individuals receiving mental health, homelessness, and substance use services is important. Prior experience in homelessness is preferred.

Ability to convey messages of hope and recovery for individuals with psychiatric disabilities.

Capability to complete basic documentation requirements regarding work activities. Strong written and oral communication skills, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and internet/email access, are preferred.

Understanding of behaviors aligned with values of critical care and recovery is preferred.

Completion of a peer advocacy training program or related certification is preferred.

Certification from the Academy of Peer Services must be obtained within the first month of employment if not already certified.

Must possess a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and adequate automobile insurance coverage.

Flexible schedule required; work hours may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. On-call duties may also be necessary.

Residency in the service county is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Must possess advocacy skills, attention to detail, and effective communication, writing, and documentation abilities.

Ability to take direction and follow through on assignments both independently and with limited supervision.

Understanding and working knowledge of confidentiality laws regarding recipients' records and personal/health information, including HIPAA regulations.
