The National Community Pharmacists Association is seeking to fill a position within our Computational Lab, focusing on the intersection of pharmacogenomics and clinical pharmacy. Our primary research objectives include identifying pharmacogenetic indicators that predict the effectiveness and safety of statin therapies, as well as enhancing pharmacogenomic research in populations that have historically been underrepresented.

We are looking for candidates to support our team in the collection, management, and analysis of extensive datasets that include electronic health records, genomic information, medication regimens, and clinical outcomes.

Current projects involve:

  • Investigating the genetic and social factors influencing drug responses among diverse racial and ethnic groups.
  • Assessing the clinical relevance of polygenic risk scores for coronary heart disease (CHD) in the context of statin therapy, utilizing real-world data.
  • Identifying genetic variants and pathways linked to the risk of developing diabetes in patients using statins.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing drug response phenotypes and genotype/phenotype correlations.
  • Creating longitudinal datasets for comprehensive analysis.
  • Generating visual representations of data for clarity and insight.
  • Conducting statistical analyses and preparing detailed reports on findings.
  • Archiving code and methodologies for future reference.

We expect our specialists to contribute significantly to the advancement of pharmacogenomic knowledge. A commitment of at least 18 months is required, with potential opportunities for independent research based on performance and workload. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest or background in precision medicine, cardiology, or pharmacogenomics.

Required Qualifications:

  • Junior Specialist: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent research experience.
  • Assistant Specialist: Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree with three or more years of relevant research experience.
  • Experience in a research environment, including educational settings.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or R programming languages.
  • Strong analytical skills and familiarity with statistical software packages.
  • Experience in managing large datasets and conducting statistical analyses.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MA/MS) in a relevant field.
