Inpatient DRG Coder Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Inpatient DRG Coder to join our team at Intermountain Health. As a key member of our coding team, you will be responsible for assigning accurate and complex ICD-10 CM and PCS codes to patient records, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and reimbursement methodologies.
Key Responsibilities- Assign ICD-10 CM and PCS codes to patient records with a high level of accuracy and complexity, utilizing extensive knowledge of coding guidelines and regulations.
- Audit and edit results of data provided by technology tools, resolving any discrepancies and ensuring clean and accurate claims.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including Clinical Documentation Integrity, to review complex inpatient facility encounters and assign codes based on provider and clinical documentation.
- Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assign appropriate clinical diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with nationally recognized guidelines.
- Verify data abstracted and entered from the electronic health record (EHR), ensuring integrity of the database for internal and external data reporting.
- Respond promptly to inquiries from revenue services related to code and modifier usage within the billing process.
- Adhere to all internal and external compliance guidelines, participating in continuing education programs to maintain knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, and surgical techniques.
- Stay up-to-date with coding guidelines, reimbursement methodologies, and regulatory compliance, maintaining thorough and current knowledge of clinical care and treatment options.
- Coding credential from AHIMA or AAPC required, or ten (10) years of acute care inpatient facility coding experience.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment, with attention to detail for accuracy requirements.
- Preferred qualifications include three (3) years of acute care facility coding experience, including ICD-10-CM and PCS coding with multidisciplinary service lines, and experience with EPIC EHR and 3M 360 CAC.
