We are seeking a skilled Inpatient Coding Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a coding credential from AHIMA or AAPC and demonstrate expertise in selecting appropriate Diagnoses and Procedures while adhering to the ICD-10-CM/PCS official coding guidelines.

Responsibilities include querying healthcare providers for clarification or additional documentation when faced with conflicting or incomplete information in health records. It is essential to maintain compliance with coding standards and advance coding knowledge through ongoing education.

Applicants should have a strong understanding of MS-DRG and NY-APR methodologies. This position is fully remote, with all necessary equipment provided. Candidates must ensure a secure remote work environment that complies with HIPAA and Hospital Privacy policies.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize a computerized encoding system to ensure precise coding. Sequence diagnoses and procedures according to ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT4, UHDDS, and other relevant guidelines.
  • Support accurate reporting of healthcare data elements required for external reporting purposes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Engage with healthcare providers to obtain necessary clarifications regarding health record documentation.
  • Commit to ongoing education to enhance coding knowledge and maintain ethical coding practices.
  • Participate in coding meetings and collaborative sessions, contributing to team discussions and problem-solving activities.
  • Maintain focus and professionalism during virtual meetings, ensuring appropriate engagement.
  • Assist in organizing departmental resources and documentation as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Required: Coding certification through AHIMA or AAPC in good standing.
  • Required: High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • Preferred: Prior experience in hospital medical coding.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with 3M 360 and EPIC systems.
  • Must achieve a score of 80% or above on the assessment; new coders with higher scores may be considered.
  • Proficient computer skills, with the ability to navigate multiple systems effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, or CPT-4 coding classification systems.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on maintaining productivity.
