The 8 West PCU is a specialized 27-bed telemetry unit dedicated to the care of Hospitalist patients requiring management of gastrointestinal and surgical conditions. This unit also serves as an alternative for pulmonary and other medical patients.

Orientation Requirements: Successful candidates must be available for mandatory orientation sessions during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, for the initial two weeks.

In this position, you will deliver nursing care that encompasses monitoring vital signs, assisting patients with daily activities such as bathing, meals, and mobility, and providing one-on-one support for patients requiring safety precautions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver fundamental nursing care and execute advanced technical skills tailored to specific age groups.
  • Facilitate the transportation of patients, supplies, and equipment within the facility.
  • Accurately document and communicate patient observations to licensed healthcare professionals.
  • Engage in performance improvement initiatives at Carilion Clinic.
  • Review medical records for pending orders and manage equipment processing between patients.
  • Oversee admissions, transfers, and discharges while coordinating patient flow using departmental software.
  • Provide individualized patient care related to safety and precautionary measures.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork abilities.
  • Completion of orientation and competency validation is mandatory.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (CPR) from the American Heart Association is required within six months of hire.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant license is preferred.
  • Prior experience in direct patient care is advantageous.
