Position Overview

We are looking for a qualified Staff Veterinarian to oversee our Safety Assessment operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the health care of animals within the facility.
  • Conduct scheduled veterinary rounds and provide clinical care and preventive medicine.
  • Administer surgical support and offer anesthesia, surgical, and analgesic expertise to aid in protocol development.
  • Design and implement training programs for staff, covering veterinary diagnostics, techniques, and minor surgical procedures.
  • Guide veterinary services personnel on animal health care as needed.
  • Engage in internal and external inspections and quality assurance audits related to veterinary or animal welfare.
  • Support the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) activities, including protocol and program reviews.
  • Consult with researchers on animal care, health, welfare, and treatment, and assist in study planning and reporting.
  • Participate in sentinel animal monitoring and other health monitoring programs.
  • Draft, review, and update veterinary care and necropsy standard operating procedures (SOPs) as necessary.
  • Conduct literature reviews on veterinary topics.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, guidelines, and standards regarding animal care and use.
  • Make recommendations to enhance veterinary and animal care standards.
  • Maintain accurate records when using controlled substances.
  • Innovate procedural improvements relevant to research studies.
  • Assist in managing assigned section activities, including supervising staff and overseeing personnel actions.
  • Engage in special projects and provide administrative support as required.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are essential for the Staff Veterinarian role:

  • Veterinary degree (D.V.M./V.M.D.) or equivalent.
  • Licensure to practice veterinary medicine in at least one U.S. state.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, along with strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to practice veterinary medicine in the relevant state is highly desirable.
  • Eligibility or accreditation from ACLAM is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in laboratory animal medicine is preferred.
  • Two years of management experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with laws, regulations, and guidelines governing animal research and laboratory animal medicine is crucial.
