Work Schedule: Full-Time and Part-Time positions available, up to 40 hours per week.

Position Summary: Gateway Community Service Board is seeking dedicated Support Services Specialists to enhance our expanding workforce. Our committed professionals assist individuals with disabilities in residential facilities that operate 24/7. Responsibilities include observing and documenting individual behaviors, as well as facilitating the development of essential personal and social skills, basic academics, or vocational skills for our clients. Additionally, specialists may support meal preparation, encourage group activities, provide transportation, and assist with limited case management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate necessary medical care and ensure services are delivered effectively.
  • Assist in creating individualized service or treatment plans for each client.
  • Provide care during times of incapacitation, family disruption, or recovery, offering companionship and personal assistance.
  • Guide and counsel individuals on behavioral issues, decision-making, and resolving minor conflicts.
  • Instruct individuals in daily living skills through one-on-one or group sessions.
  • Monitor and document individual behaviors.
  • Engage in case reviews, collaborating with a team to assess client needs and plan ongoing services.
  • Perform household tasks, including cleaning, laundry, and running errands.
  • Assist in meal planning, shopping, and preparation, including special dietary needs, while supporting families in creating nutritious meals.
  • Maintain accurate records of client progress and services provided, reporting any changes in condition to supervisors.
  • Provide transportation for clients to various appointments and activities.
  • Adhere to agency policies regarding medication administration.
  • Follow departmental protocols related to work schedules, including reporting tardiness or absences, and adhering to break and lunch guidelines.
  • Submit leave requests in accordance with departmental procedures for planned and emergency absences.
  • Complete bi-weekly timesheets accurately.
  • Present a professional appearance, wearing appropriate attire based on the clientele served.
  • Observe health, safety, and sanitation policies, reporting any potential hazards to supervisors.
  • Refrain from using agency resources for personal business.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Understanding of state, local, and federal regulations to adapt existing programs and develop new initiatives.

  • Familiarity with basic housekeeping tasks.

Education & Experience Requirements: Candidates must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid high school diploma or GED. A minimum of one year of experience providing social or direct care services to groups of individuals with special needs in a human services environment is required. Certification as a Nursing Assistant, an associate degree in a related field, or equivalent experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Gateway CSB promotes a drug-free workplace through mandatory pre-employment drug testing.


Full-Time and Part-Time shifts available, including 4 days per week with 2-3 Saturdays each month.
