Modine is seeking a highly skilled Product Development Engineer II to join our team in the newly created business segment focused on Electric and Fuel Cell vehicle market. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing new Battery Thermal Management systems, Passenger Thermal Management Systems, and Electronics Cooling Package technologies and components for Electric Vehicles and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles.
Key Responsibilities- Develop new concepts for Battery Thermal Management Systems, Passenger Thermal Management Systems, and Electronics Cooling Package technologies
- Design and develop new electric components, including compressors, heaters, coolant pumps, E-fans, sensors, and valves
- Specify test requirements and analyze test results to validate performance and durability of new and revised designs
- Determine design alternatives and optimize for cost, durability, performance, and manufacturability goals
- Collaborate with application, manufacturing, materials, and virtual technology teams to develop new designs
- Plan and manage prototype builds and validation testing to ensure new product goals are met
- Maintain project financials within approved expenditures and be accountable for cost overruns requiring justification and approval for additional expenditures
- Release documentation, including models, drawings, specifications, and predictive computer modeling tools, for newly developed products
- Provide value-added and value-engineering support for continuous improvement and cost reduction opportunities in the plants
- Resolve production program and new launch issues
- College graduate in Mechanical or Electrical engineering or related technical discipline with limited work experience or 2-7 years equivalent experience in the specified engineering discipline
- Basic understanding of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and 2-phase refrigerant systems required
- Knowledge of structural design, manufacturing processes, and computer methods necessary
- Knowledge of HV and LV electrical components desired
- Prior experience in the EV market and/or thermal management system design beneficial
- CAD software (Pro/E, UG, SolidEdge, or similar), KULI, and computer programming experience beneficial and preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal required
