Job Description:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Clinic plays a crucial role in assisting healthcare providers in delivering timely and quality patient care within a clinical setting. Responsibilities include gathering patient information, providing care, and facilitating communication between patients and the care team. This position may involve collaboration with multiple providers in a team-oriented environment.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Delivers patient care support as assigned by the Provider or RN.
    • Administers treatments including medications, schedules follow-up appointments, and other specialty-specific support.
    • Provides pre/post-encounter care and shares preventative health information.
    • Collaborates with the Provider and team to enhance quality management goals.
    • May initiate, monitor, and discontinue IVs based on site requirements and training.
  • Manages patient flow and collects necessary medical information.
    • Rooms patients and accurately records vital signs and other indicators in the medical record.
    • Coordinates communication of medical information and confirms details with patients as needed.
    • Assists patients in preparing for examinations, offering psycho-emotional support.
    • Collects, labels, and processes specimens in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Supports physicians during procedures by preparing necessary medications.
    • Organizes patient flow to facilitate efficient physician movement between rooms.
    • Conducts follow-up calls to patients as directed, which may include notifying them of test results.
    • Accurately documents all patient interactions in the medical record.
    • May assist with scheduling follow-up visits before patients leave.
  • Handles patient phone communications.
    • Answers calls in a professional and timely manner.
    • May confirm patient symptoms using their own descriptions.
    • Arranges appropriate appointments or forwards inquiries to RN or provider for further action.
    • Documents all interactions accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Processes physician orders.
    • Performs clinical tasks within the scope of practice as directed by the physician.
    • Responds promptly to patient needs and requests.
    • Reviews patient charts prior to visits to ensure availability of test results and reports.
    • Provides patients with instructions as directed by the physician.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of exam rooms.
    • Ensures proper cleaning and maintenance of exam rooms and sterilizes instruments as trained.
    • Restocks teaching supplies and ensures availability.
    • Stocks exam rooms according to established standards and patient needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's or Vocational degree from a Board of Nursing approved LPN program
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of experience as a clinic LPN
Licenses/Certifications
  • Licensed Practical Nurse MN BON or Licensed Practical Nurse Wisconsin (if applicable)
  • May require both state licenses based on the services provided at the location hired
  • Must meet at least ONE of the following requirements:

    •Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association

    •Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross

    •Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)
