Position Overview: The Lead Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the Maintenance Supervisor by overseeing maintenance operations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and guiding team members in their daily tasks. This position involves a diverse range of maintenance responsibilities, with a strong emphasis on training and development of maintenance staff to achieve operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in assigning and directing daily maintenance tasks.
  • Provide comprehensive training for new maintenance personnel across all shifts, offering constructive feedback to management as necessary.
  • Conduct diagnostics to troubleshoot equipment issues and fabricate or repair parts as needed.
  • Adhere to a scheduled routine for preventive maintenance activities.
  • Inspect, diagnose, disassemble, repair, and replace components of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Remove outdated equipment and install new machinery as required.
  • Utilize welding techniques including MIG, TIG, and stick welding for repairs.
  • Perform machining tasks as necessary.
  • Carry out plumbing repairs as needed.
  • Possess a working knowledge of electrical systems, including 3-phase 208 and 480 volts.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization in the maintenance area following repairs.
  • Exhibit punctuality and regular attendance for scheduled shifts.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, USDA standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Basic mathematical skills are essential.
  • Capable of taking precise measurements and maintaining records throughout the shift.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Must be physically capable of meeting job demands with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of a background check, drug screening, and pre-employment physical is required.
  • Some roles may necessitate proficiency in reading, writing, and/or speaking English.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged standing (12 hours or more).
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull weights of up to 50 lbs or more.
  • Operation of handheld and mechanical equipment.
  • Frequent walking and climbing stairs.
  • Manual dexterity including gripping, grasping, and twisting motions.
  • Bending and stooping for extended periods.

Work Environment:

  • 12-hour shifts, with varying schedules.
  • Seasonal demands may require additional work hours.
  • Job assignments may vary based on production needs.
  • Exposure to varying environmental conditions, including damp, cold, and hot settings.
  • Working with machinery that produces high noise levels.
  • Handling of chemicals and potential exposure to strong odors.
  • Interaction with animal by-products.
