Job Summary:

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for preparing the operating room by sterilizing and setting up the necessary equipment for procedures. This includes assembling all equipment and ensuring it functions properly. The Surgical Technologist handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures. They have an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipate the needs of the surgeon.

The Surgical Technologist ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and maintains the sterile field. They perform other related duties as needed to maintain department cost containment, efficiency, and quality performance.


Responsibilities:

  • Prepares the operating room by sterilizing and setting up equipment for procedures.
  • Assembles and checks equipment to ensure it functions properly.
  • Handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures.
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and ensures quality patient care.
  • Maintains the sterile field and performs other related duties as needed.

Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited surgical technician program or equivalent.
  • Certification (CST) required within 1 year of program completion.
  • Minimum of one (1) year work experience as a surgical technician.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Ambulatory Surgery or Outpatient Surgery.
  • Experience scrubbing in on variety of cases (orthopedic, plastics, general, and urology).
  • Experience in Sterile Processing Department.

Certifications:

  • Currently holds American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) or AHA approved equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift 10 lbs. box overhead. Lift and carry 15 lbs. Push/pull 20 lbs. cart.
  • Lift and carry 25-35 lbs. Push/pull lbs. (ie. empty bed, stretcher)
  • Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Push/pull +/- lbs. (Patients on bed, stretcher) Lateral transfer lbs. (ie. Patient)
  • Lift over 50 lbs. Carry 80 lbs. a distance of 30 feet. Push/pull > 200 lbs. (ie. Patients on bed, stretcher)
