Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Early Head Start Teacher to join our team at Community Action Agency of Oklahoma City. As a key member of our early childhood education program, you will be responsible for creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment for preschool children, promoting their social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement lesson plans that align with Head Start/Early Head Start (ACF) Policies and performance standards.
  • Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment, fostering a sense of community and respect among children, families, and staff.
  • Collaborate with Teacher Assistants to ensure seamless daily operations, including attendance records, meal census, and large and small group activities.
  • Administer and follow through on required screenings and assessments, including the E-LAP.
  • Develop and maintain written records of children's growth and development, informing individualized plans and progress monitoring.
  • Participate in center activities, such as recruitment, volunteer orientation, and special events, promoting a sense of teamwork and community.
  • Maintain a daily classroom schedule, ensuring a smooth and efficient learning environment.
  • Work closely with the Family Advocate to address health, nutrition, and social service needs of families, making referrals and ensuring follow-up as needed.
  • Organize parent-teacher conferences, home visits, and other activities to engage families in their child's education and development.
  • Provide leadership and direction to Teacher Assistants and classroom volunteers, promoting a culture of mutual respect and support.
  • Stay up-to-date with training opportunities to enhance teaching skills and job performance.
Working Conditions

This role requires frequent travel to offsite locations, including field trips to child-oriented activities. You must be mobile and agile to perform required tasks, such as lifting up to 45 pounds, reaching above the head and below the knee, or positioning yourself at child level and floor level. You must also be able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and run or walk hurriedly for a child's safety.

Qualifications
  • CDA Infants/Toddlers certification.
  • Computer literacy.
  • No physical limitations that would preclude the performance of duties.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for an Early Childhood classroom and related duties.
  • Meet all applicable requirements established by state and funding sources, including fingerprinting.
  • Have transportation available and a valid Oklahoma State driver's license.
  • Ability to work with diverse cultures.
  • Willingness to attend training and/or further schooling.
  • Meet required Work Environment standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of full-time employment in an Early Childhood classroom.
  • Associate degree in early childhood education.
