Job Summary:

As an Early Childhood Educator with the Community Action Agency of Oklahoma City, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational needs of preschool children in our Early Head Start program. This position requires a deep understanding of Head Start/Early Head Start policies, performance standards, and procedures, as well as the ability to implement and follow them effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Classroom Leadership: Serve as a model for good teaching techniques and demonstrate new approaches to support the development of our young learners.
  • Classroom Environment: Establish and maintain a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment that meets the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical needs of each child.
  • Curriculum Development: Guide classroom activities by selecting and designing appropriate materials, facilitating discussions, and using guidance techniques to promote independence and learning.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with Teacher Assistants to complete tasks such as attendance records, meal census, and large and small group activities, as well as maintain open communication with families and other staff members.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Administer and follow through on required screenings and assessments, including the E-LAP, and maintain written records of ongoing assessments to inform individualized plans.
  • Family Engagement: Participate in activities such as recruitment, volunteer orientation, and special events, and work with the Family Advocate to address health, nutrition, and social service needs of families.
  • Leadership and Professional Development: Provide guidance and direction to Teacher Assistants and classroom volunteers, and utilize training opportunities to strengthen teaching abilities and job performance.
Working Conditions:

This position requires frequent travel to offsite locations and the ability to perform tasks that involve lifting up to 45 pounds, reaching above the head and below the knee, and positioning the body to be on child's level and floor level.

Qualifications:
  • CDA Infants/Toddlers credential
  • Computer literacy
  • No physical limitations that would preclude the performance of duties
  • Ability to assume responsibility for an Early Childhood classroom and related duties
  • Meet all applicable requirements established by state and funding sources, including fingerprinting
  • Valid Oklahoma State driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work with diverse cultures
  • Willingness to attend training and/or further schooling
Desired Qualifications:
  • Two years of full-time employment in an Early Childhood classroom
  • Associate degree in early childhood education
