The Human Resources Generalist plays a vital role in supporting the HR Team to enhance human resources functions within a fast-paced consumer goods, unionized manufacturing setting. This position provides HR expertise in areas such as payroll, attendance tracking, recruitment, leave management, record maintenance, communication, project oversight, safety, labor relations, and affirmative action. This role reports to the HR Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the HR team in recruitment efforts for the corporate office, including advertising, sourcing, applicant evaluation, and interviewing. Conduct new hire orientations and ensure compliance with employment regulations. Manage administrative tasks related to onboarding new employees and maintain employee records.
  • Support payroll and attendance management processes. Familiarity with Kronos and ADP is advantageous.
  • Provide administrative HR support, including legal research, clarifying policies and procedures, and resolving employee inquiries.
  • Act as a problem solver, identifying the root causes of employee concerns for long-term resolution.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Talent Management to develop job descriptions for various positions.
  • Coordinate and manage all transactional activities related to daily HR operations. Represent the company in unemployment claims and hearings, and participate in project teams as needed.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures for client groups/plants.
  • Handle day-to-day HR transactional activities, including payroll changes, employee life events, and responding to HR-related inquiries.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field; at least one year of HR experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated human resources skills, including recruitment and proficiency in software applications (MS Office, HRIS, etc.).
  • Understanding of HR laws and policies, including employment law, disability, and benefits programs.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a unionized setting.
  • Background in the food/beverage industry.
  • Experience in report writing.
  • PHR Certification or completion of a PHR preparatory course.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a typical office environment, including driving a vehicle and occasionally working in the field.

FREQUENT: Sitting, neck flexion, fine finger dexterity, light to moderate finger pressure for extended periods of keyboard and mouse use, walking, standing, bending, and stooping.

OCCASIONAL: Squatting, kneeling, reaching above shoulder height, lifting objects weighing 20 – 35 lbs., and transporting items up to 50 feet.
