Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Material Team Lead to join our team at J.B. Poindexter. As a key member of our Operations department, you will be responsible for leading the incoming, storage, and delivery of materials throughout the warehouse and production lines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of Material Handlers with daily team meetings to ensure goals are communicated and achieved.
  • Perform physical inter-departmental transport of materials in the warehouse and in JDE as they occur.
  • Create and sustain a culture of accuracy and efficiency to build confidence in the physical movement of materials.
  • Avoid negative inventory by detecting and fixing defects through the receipt of the negative inventory location report.
  • Drive the staging of necessary materials to keep production lines running and optimize performance of complete and on-time deliveries.
  • Communicate any issues or delays in the staging pick of production that may impact shipments.
  • Communicate inventory discrepancies quickly and effectively.
  • Increase inventory accuracy by receiving and distributing daily rotating cycle counts and forwarding results to Materials Management.
  • Perform audits of inventory accuracy to ensure Material Handlers are doing transfers.
  • Identify and fix any material in the warehouse that has been incorrectly stored in an unsafe condition.
  • Drive the consolidation of multiple locations across the warehouse of the same parts both physically and in JDE.
  • Avoid JDE inventory within bulk locations.
  • Provide coaching to motivate the workforce and increase retention.
  • Implement a systematic approach of signing in/out scan guns to Material Handlers daily to set accountability.
  • Conduct regular training sessions to ensure all employees are properly trained in their functions.
  • Cross-train to ensure backups are in place.
  • Provide feedback for warehouse layout and optimize storage capacity to build the Visual Plant.
  • Lead warehouse sanitation/5S activities.
Requirements
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with the Operations team.
  • Ability to handle job-related matters in a professional, diplomatic, and confidential manner.
  • Strong self-initiative and attention to detail.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
Qualifications
  • Experience in a warehousing, distribution, or shipping environment.
  • Prior experience leading people in a fast-paced distribution environment.
  • Good communication skills and strong leadership abilities.
  • Ability to resolve crisis and make quick decisions.
