Overview:
The Mechanical Integrity Specialist is responsible for enhancing the mechanical reliability of assigned operational units. This role involves collaborating with maintenance, inspection, and technology teams to diagnose and analyze equipment failures, particularly those classified as high criticality or recurring issues, to formulate and execute improvement strategies aimed at optimizing mechanical performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and validate engineering drawings and vendor submissions for accuracy and completeness.
- Provide clear instructions to design teams to ensure high-quality output.
- Conduct calculations relevant to mechanical integrity under the supervision of a senior engineer.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution is required, along with 0-3 years of relevant experience in sectors such as refining, petrochemicals, chemicals, offshore operations, pipelines, or utilities. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Licenses and Certifications:
A valid driver's license is required as per state regulations. Engineer Intern (E.I.) certification is preferred.
Essential Skills:
Proficiency in AutoCAD is preferred. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Outlook, are necessary. Familiarity with regulatory codes and standards related to mechanical engineering is advantageous. A solid understanding of fundamental engineering principles is essential.
Physical Demands:
The role requires the ability to navigate industrial sites, including walking up to one mile in various weather conditions. Candidates must be capable of wearing protective gear that may increase body temperature and using ladders and stair towers independently. The position also necessitates the ability to hear safety signals while using hearing protection and to operate a computer for extended periods.
Job Duties:
The Mechanical Integrity Specialist will:
- Drive the mechanical reliability enhancement process for assigned units.
- Work closely with maintenance and operational teams to address equipment failures and implement reliability improvement plans.
- Ensure adherence to the Mechanical Reliability budget and compliance with Mechanical Integrity standards.
- Conduct thorough Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFAs) on critical equipment failures.
- Perform regular audits of notifications related to equipment reliability.
Education and Experience:
A B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering is mandatory. Preferred qualifications include Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) and Certified Reliability Leader (CRL) certifications, along with a minimum of 2 years of practical engineering experience, particularly with fixed and rotating equipment.
Personal Attributes:
Candidates should possess strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to make data-driven decisions, demonstrate cultural sensitivity, and maintain a professional demeanor is essential. Proven skills in public speaking, conflict resolution, and relationship management are highly valued.
