Job Overview:
The individual will engage in the Cherokee language with all personnel involved in the Master-Apprentice Cherokee Language Program within an immersive Cherokee language environment. Collaborates with proficient Cherokee language speakers to enhance their capacity to articulate abstract ideas in the Cherokee language.

Key Responsibilities:


Utilizes the Cherokee language to support both the Master-Apprentice Cherokee Language program staff and Apprentices, aiding all participants in accumulating the necessary contact hours to elevate their Cherokee language proficiency.

Aids in the development of new Cherokee language resources to bolster the language skills of Apprentices. Provides assistance as required to enhance the creation of curriculum aimed at ensuring the success of Master-Apprentice teams. Offers guidance to Master-Apprentice language staff regarding the evaluation of Cherokee language competencies, including the design of assessments and other evaluation instruments. Contributes to the collection of information, data, and analysis to pinpoint opportunities for advancing Cherokee language acquisition.

Employs expertise in the language to assist Apprentices in grasping Cherokee culture and philosophy within the framework of the Cherokee language.

Provides necessary direction to enhance and retain Master-Apprentice staff. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND


Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical institution; or two years (60 credit hours) of coursework from a four-year college or university; or three years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
At least two (2) additional years of experience in an agency, cultural organization, or a related field.

TECHNICAL SKILLS


The candidate should be proficient in Accounting, Database Management, Internet Navigation, Inventory Control, Project Management, Spreadsheet Applications, and Word Processing software; as well as Contact Management, Human Resource, and Payroll systems.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS


Must hold a valid driver's license with a driving history that meets the Cherokee Nation underwriting standards.


ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES


Must demonstrate complete mastery of the Cherokee language, including a thorough understanding of spoken Cherokee and the ability to write in the Cherokee syllabary.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS


The candidate must not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA), nor listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).


Depending on the work location, the candidate may need to meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigations and adjudications for child care.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; and communicate verbally or audibly. The employee frequently stands and walks.

Occasionally, the employee may reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and utilize taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT


While executing the responsibilities of this position, the employee may occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
