Job Summary:

Cherokee Nation is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill the role of Deputy Marshal I. As a key member of our law enforcement team, you will be responsible for preserving peace, preventing and investigating crimes, and providing assistance to citizens in emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Attend formal police academy training to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to perform law enforcement duties.
  • Participate in a 12-week Field Training Officer (FTO) program to gain hands-on experience and develop expertise in arrest and control techniques.
  • Review and comply with policies, procedures, laws, rules, and regulations specific to Marshal Services to ensure effective law enforcement within the Cherokee Nation jurisdiction.
  • Conduct inspections of equipment to ensure proper operation and maintenance, and troubleshoot malfunctions as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Additional six (6) months of experience in a related field.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications within six (6) months of hire and maintenance throughout employment.
  • FLETC certification within one year of hire, or as soon as scheduling allows, and maintenance throughout employment.
  • CLEET reciprocity certification within two years of hire and maintenance throughout employment.
Working Conditions:

This is a law enforcement position that requires working in a fast-paced environment with varying weather conditions. The employee must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee must also be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

This position requires the ability to work in a team environment and maintain confidentiality in sensitive situations. The employee must also be able to pass a background check and maintain eligibility for CLEET and Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) deputation.
