Position Overview:

The Hang Point Lead plays a pivotal role in overseeing a crucial production transition – the transfer of fabricated components to a semi-automated powder coating line. This position ensures that all fabricated parts adhere to specifications necessary for the powder coating process and manages the hanging of these components onto the paint line chain system. The role demands effective leadership of a diverse team and strict compliance with quality, production, and safety protocols.

An exemplary Hang Point Lead exhibits strong communication abilities, meticulous attention to detail, a focus on efficiency, and a comprehensive understanding of fabrication and painting processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a Safety First approach in all tasks.
  • Collaborate with departmental coordinators and supervisors to plan, schedule, and communicate daily production goals and expectations, assigning work to production staff accordingly.
  • Ensure optimal allocation of personnel and resources to facilitate safe and efficient operations at the transition point between fabrication and painting.
  • Guide, mentor, and train production workers, holding them accountable as a frontline leader and escalating issues to coordinators/supervisors when necessary.
  • Work with leaders from other departments (including Fabrication, Quality, Materials/Inventory, Shipping, and Maintenance) to streamline operations and resolve any bottlenecks affecting output.
  • Track production key performance indicators (KPIs) and modify activities as needed to meet or exceed production targets.
  • Assess all aspects of the fabrication-to-paint line transition, identifying opportunities for operational enhancements and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, performing production tasks such as machine setup and hanging fabricated parts on the paint line chain as required to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Support compliance with safety regulations in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Assist in various production areas to maintain operational integrity.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a fabrication or light manufacturing setting.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a leadership role overseeing production staff.
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish to effectively communicate work instructions and safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a fabrication or light manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership capacity managing production teams.
  • 5+ years of experience with industrial powder coating technology.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, process guidelines, technical manuals, and safety protocols.
  • Effective communication skills to convey work instructions to a diverse workforce.
  • Capability to instill urgency and hold teams accountable for their responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with general manufacturing, fabrication, and material flow processes and equipment.
  • Mathematical proficiency to perform basic calculations using various units of measure.
  • Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions.
  • Problem-solving skills to address issues in standardized situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly lift and/or move objects weighing 10-20 lbs.
