GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Ensure a hygienic and orderly atmosphere for residents and personnel. Execute routine sanitation of resident quarters, corridors, administrative offices, and other designated spaces. Adhere to departmental policies and procedures regarding responsibilities. Reports to the department supervisor.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Sanitizes resident quarters, communal areas, nursing stations, corridors, administrative offices, and other designated spaces.
  • Conducts daily cleaning tasks in alignment with infection control and universal precaution protocols.
  • Upholds confidentiality and respects residents' rights.
  • Follows the dress code as per departmental guidelines.
  • Treats all residents with respect and compassion.
  • Ensures that floors are clear of hazardous materials.
  • Employs proper body mechanics while lifting.
  • Safeguards and maintains all work areas in compliance with facility safety regulations.
  • Completes tasks such as cleaning over-the-bed lights, wall art, and other surfaces as assigned.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
  • May occasionally assist in orienting new staff members.
  • Work schedule may vary to cover for absences.
  • Participates in a rotating on-call schedule for weekends.
  • May require training for laundry operations.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess the ability to read, write, speak, and follow both oral and written instructions in English.
  • Applicants should be at least 18 years old.
WORK ASSIGNMENT, REVIEW, AND APPROVAL:
  • Housekeeping staff are directly overseen by the head of the housekeeping division.
DECISION-MAKING AND RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Must demonstrate initiative and judgment in executing assigned tasks.
  • Must be capable of organizing work effectively.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks consistently.
  • Must possess the ability to assess work and prioritize tasks.
REPORTING:
  • Completes incident documentation.
  • Submits supply requests.
  • Reports verbally to the supervisor regarding maintenance needs.
EQUIPMENT USE:
  • Utilizes brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, and floor maintenance equipment (e.g., carpet extractor).
  • Occasionally operates a floor buffer.
INTERACTIONS WITH OTHERS:
  • Must maintain friendly relations with residents, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Must communicate clearly and foster a cooperative atmosphere with colleagues.
MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Stands and walks throughout the day on hard surfaces.
  • Frequently bends, kneels, and maneuvers housekeeping carts.
  • Pushes beds weighing up to 300 lbs regularly.
  • Climbs stepladders daily.
  • Lifts weights between 50-75 lbs routinely.
  • Works indoors in a well-lit, ventilated, and heated environment.
  • Must tolerate odors from residents and soiled linens regularly.
  • Occasionally may be required to work outdoors collecting litter.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:
  • High School diploma preferred.
  • Ability to successfully complete an activity certification program.
  • Willingness to enhance training through in-service programs both internally and externally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Indoors: Works in well-lit and ventilated areas. Subject to potential falls, odors, and injuries from equipment. May encounter infectious waste, diseases, chemicals, and various viruses.

Outdoors: Possible exposure to extreme weather conditions.
