Position Overview

The Cashier plays a crucial role in enhancing the shopping experience for customers by efficiently processing sales transactions in a friendly and courteous manner.

Reporting Structure

This role reports directly to the Office Manager.

Employment Status

This is a non-exempt position.

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge:
- A valid liquor license is required prior to starting (if applicable).
- Completion of ongoing training as outlined in the Cosentino's Learning Plan.

Preferred Knowledge:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Key Skills

The following skills are essential for success in this position:

  • Accurately process payments using various methods including cash, checks, gift cards, and credit/debit cards.
  • Follow established procedures for processing payments related to government assistance programs.
  • Issue customer receipts and provide correct change.
  • Identify products using PLUs, scales, or produce numbers.
  • Operate electronic cash registers and related equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and professional front-end appearance.
  • Handle customer complaints professionally and know when to escalate issues.
  • Adhere to Cosentino's Customer Service Standards.
  • Comply with health regulations and safety procedures.
  • Possess strong verbal and interpersonal skills for effective communication.
  • Demonstrate basic math and reading skills.
Physical Requirements

The following physical activities may be required:

  • Reaching overhead, twisting, and lifting objects up to 10 lbs.
  • Pushing and pulling grocery items and carts, with a peak force of 25 lbs.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods on hard surfaces.
  • Lifting and carrying items up to 30 lbs. occasionally.
  • Bending and squatting as needed.
Additional Responsibilities

As directed by management, the Cashier may also:

  • Train new cashiers during their orientation.
  • Promote sales by suggesting additional products.
  • Return unwanted items to their appropriate locations.
  • Assist with other tasks as needed to support the team.

By understanding and fulfilling the responsibilities outlined above, the Cashier contributes significantly to the overall success of Cosentino's Food Stores.
