Position Overview

Are you passionate about engaging in outdoor activities? Shelby County Government is on the lookout for candidates to fill Temporary Laborer positions that involve a variety of responsibilities including supervision, pest management, and both skilled and unskilled labor tasks.

Selection Process

Positions are filled based on the needs of various departments and the qualifications of applicants. When openings occur, applications will be assessed based on experience, education, and specific job requirements.

If your qualifications match a temporary role, the relevant department will reach out to you.

Essential Qualifications

100% -

Participate in physical labor under direct supervision, primarily in outdoor environments.

1. Previous experience in an outdoor role is advantageous;

2. Minimum educational requirement of tenth (10) grade.

Key Responsibilities

1. Execute unskilled labor tasks.

2. Assist with maintenance activities such as debris removal and drain cleaning.

3. Maintain lawn care equipment and tractors, manage traffic, operate basic tools, load and unload materials, and more.

4. Utilize tools and equipment for clearing waterways and ditches.

5. Perform additional tasks as directed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Ability to follow instructions and oral/written directions.

2. Strong verbal communication skills with supervisors.

3. Familiarity with mowing equipment.

4. Physical capability to complete assigned tasks.

5. Capacity to learn new procedures from clear instructions.

6. Teamwork and collaboration with colleagues.

7. Ability to interact positively with coworkers and the public.

8. Proficiency in using hand tools, power equipment, and their maintenance.

Physical Demands

Some roles may require heavy lifting, climbing, and prolonged standing during job functions.

Special Considerations

1. Certain temporary positions may require work at multiple locations as needed.

2. Specific roles may involve responsibilities in correctional facility environments.

3. Pre-employment assessments may be necessary for certain positions.

4. A valid Tennessee Driver's license may be required or obtainable upon employment.

5. Access to a reliable vehicle that meets county insurance standards upon employment.
