Healthcare Support Specialist

The Healthcare Support Specialist plays a vital role in providing exceptional patient care under the supervision of registered nurses and other healthcare professionals. This role involves assisting with daily living activities, ensuring patient comfort, and maintaining a safe and clean environment. The ideal candidate must be attentive, empathetic, and committed to improving the quality of life for patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and toileting.
Monitor and record vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration.
Assist with patient mobility, including turning, repositioning, and transferring patients to prevent bedsores and maintain comfort.
Support for Medical Procedures:
Assist nurses and doctors during examinations and treatments.
Set up and maintain medical equipment for procedures as directed.
Collect specimens for testing, such as urine, fecal, or sputum samples.
Patient Environment:
Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly patient environment.
Change bed linens, clean patient rooms, and ensure proper sanitation.
Ensure the patient's call light and personal items are within reach.
Communication:
Report any changes in the patient's condition to the nursing staff promptly.
Provide emotional support and communicate effectively with patients and their families.
Document patient care activities accurately and in a timely manner.
Team Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with nursing and medical staff to provide high-quality patient care.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of patient care plans.
Compliance and Safety:
Adhere to all healthcare regulations, including infection control, safety protocols, and patient confidentiality (HIPAA). Participate in continuing education and training to maintain competency in nursing assistant duties.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of a state-approved Nursing Assistant certification program.
Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of [New York]. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
Previous experience in a healthcare setting is a plus.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
