Position Title: Precision Machining SpecialistShift: 1st, 7am - 3pm
Compensation: $21.00/hr. - $23.00/hr.
Position Summary:
The Precision Machining Specialist is tasked with the setup and operation of honing and mandrel machines to refine the internal or external surfaces of metal components, such as prototype cylinders, bearings, bushings, or connecting rods, following precise specifications. This role requires a thorough analysis of specifications, selection of suitable tooling, and assurance of accurate machining of parts.
Key Duties:- Setup and operate honing machines to achieve specified surface finishes on metal components.
- Interpret job orders, specifications, and blueprints to ascertain dimensions, tolerances, and required tooling for each task.
- Secure workpieces in fixtures or on machine tables using clamps and wrenches, verifying positions with surface gauges and dial indicators.
- Select honing speed, depth of cut, and honing tools based on material properties and shop mathematics.
- Measure honed components for compliance with specifications using limit gauges, surface gauges, micrometers, and telescoping gauges.
- Execute bushing installations by honing or reaming features in parts and utilizing pneumatic tools, arbor presses, or hydraulic pullers as necessary.
- Apply liquid nitrogen to facilitate bushing installations according to specifications and perform surface sealing on bushings and bearings.
- Maintain and replace worn honing stones as needed to ensure consistent performance.
- Report production times for each task to the supervisor and prepare machines for other operators when required.
- Comply with all safety and quality control protocols, ensuring adherence to industry standards and company policies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor based on production schedules and workload demands.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Completion of trade school, vocational training, or apprenticeship is preferred.
- 2-4 years of experience in a relevant machining environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manufacturing sketches, and inspection tools.
- Knowledge of Quality Control processes, including the use of gauges, micrometers, dial bores, and ring gauges.
- Strong grasp of arithmetic, particularly involving decimals and fractions, and its application to drawing interpretation and dimension calculations.
- Capability to set tool lengths and operate machines independently with minimal supervision.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on precision and accuracy in all tasks.
- Physical ability to lift heavy loads and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
- Proficient in English, with the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
- This role involves working in a machine shop setting, where attention to safety, quality, and production efficiency is paramount.
