This role is for a Nursing Unit Supervisor within the Extended Recovery Unit, a key component of the esteemed Center for Brain Injuries managed by HMH/JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute.

This program specializes in delivering tailored care and rehabilitation for individuals with traumatic or acquired brain injuries, forming an integral part of our comprehensive care continuum, which includes acute rehabilitation, subacute rehabilitation, and outpatient cognitive services.

We proudly hold CARF accreditation for our rehabilitation program.


We are in search of a seasoned RN who is enthusiastic and dedicated to working with individuals facing traumatic or acquired brain injuries and other neurological challenges.

Experience in managing brain injury-related disorders and neurological conditions is highly desirable.

The selected candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and contribute to the development and enhancement of our programs as necessary.


Key Responsibilities:

As a Nursing Unit Supervisor at Hackensack Meridian Health, your daily activities will include:

  • Assisting the Director of Nursing in guiding and supervising nursing personnel to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal and state regulations regarding documentation and patient care.
  • Monitoring staff adherence to facility policies and procedures.
  • Acting as a liaison among patients, families, other departments, and external services to address patient needs.
  • Collaborating closely with the on-site physician and medical staff in the Extended Recovery Unit to maintain effective communication regarding patient status and necessary follow-ups.

Daily Duties:

Your responsibilities will also encompass:

  • Assessing and evaluating staff performance to guarantee quality care delivery.
  • Ensuring staff are well-versed in patient care protocols and equipment usage.
  • Orienting new hires to unit policies and procedures.
  • Working with an Interdisciplinary Team to provide exceptional services.
  • Participating in weekly patient care rounds.
  • Completing all required documentation in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Engaging in the Facility Performance Improvement Program.
  • Attending all mandatory meetings as directed by the Director of Nursing.
  • Participating in the recruitment process as necessary.
  • Implementing disciplinary actions as required.
  • Conducting monthly staff communication meetings across all shifts and care conferences with patients, families, and the Interdisciplinary Care Team.
  • Being accountable for 24-hour patient care in the assigned unit.
  • Assisting the Director of Nursing as needed.
  • Being available for on-call duties one weekend per month.

Qualifications:
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Completion of an accredited RN program.
  • Current compliance with all Continuing Education (CE) requirements.
  • Ability to perform clinical care with professionalism.
  • Serve as a patient advocate and a role model for fellow team members.
  • Deliver patient care with minimal disruptions.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in long-term care facilities.
  • Prior experience working with geriatric and disabled populations.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • New Jersey State Professional Registered Nurse License.
  • BLS Basic Life Support certification.
  • IV Certification.
  • CPR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification.
