About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Graduate Water Engineer to join our team in San Francisco. As a Graduate Water Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of site development and civil infrastructure projects, developing sustainable water engineering solutions and conducting data collection and field investigations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop sustainable water engineering solutions, including green infrastructure, flood risk mitigations, water treatment, water reuse, master planning, resilience planning, and sustainability assessments.
  • Conduct data collection and field investigations.
  • Prepare utility plans or hydrology/hydraulic maps using ArcGIS or other georeferenced mapping platforms.
  • Prepare 1-D and 2-D hydrologic and hydraulic models for flood risk assessments, stormwater management, and sanitary and potable water systems.
  • Prepare calculations for water demand, pipe sizing, rainwater harvesting sizing, and cost savings.
  • Perform flood risk assessments of sites, infrastructure, and communities.
  • Review and apply applicable codes, specifications, and standards for the design and implementation of water systems.
  • Develop awareness of interdependence among disciplines in delivering sustainable and resilient outcomes.
  • Provide work products for projects at various phases of planning, design, and construction.
  • Navigate the regulatory environment to gain approvals at various stages of project delivery.
  • Develop a big-picture awareness that permeates various skill areas in Arup.
  • Prepare reports, calculations, plans, exhibits, and specifications.
  • Deliver technical presentations to technical and non-technical audiences.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering or Water Resources Engineering.
  • Master's Degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering or Water Resources Engineering preferred.
  • Competence with engineering software and technical writing.
  • Core understanding of water resources engineering and civil engineering fundamentals.
  • Evidence of past engineering internship or extracurricular activity in the field.
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively manage assigned work tasks and maintain exceptional organizational skills under dynamic working conditions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential to team-based working.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills appropriate for presentations to colleagues and clients of varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Candidate must be eligible to work in the US without the need for employer-sponsored work authorization now or in the future.
  • Proficiency in civil/water engineering, design, and analysis preferred.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD, GIS, HEC-HMS, and HEC-RAS, and/or other industry-relevant software preferred.
  • Proficiency with hydraulic and hydrologic analysis tools preferred.
  • Coursework or familiarity with sustainable design principles and/or resilient design preferred.
