Job Description:

This role involves performing a variety of tasks related to drug storage, preparation, dispensing, and administration, adhering to established standards and policies.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Prescription Processing and Dispensing:
    • Reviews prescriptions for completeness and accuracy.
    • Conducts patient profile reviews before dispensing medications.
    • Detects and resolves prescribing problems.
    • Intervenes proactively.
  • Drug Preparation and Dispensing:
    • Provides accurately labeled medications.
    • Demonstrates understanding of drug preparation techniques.
    • Dispenses medications efficiently, ensuring product safety.
  • Documentation:
    • Ensures clear and concise documentation in all areas.
  • Purchasing and Inventory Control:
    • Identifies reliable sources of drug acquisition.
    • Anticipates and manages stock shortages.
    • Procures drugs in emergency situations.
  • Providing Clinical and Drug Information:
    • Problem Solving/Decision Analysis:
      • Formulates effective solutions to complex problems.
      • Solves routine department issues independently.
    • Drug Information:
      • Accesses relevant resources to provide accurate information.
      • Delivers precise and timely verbal and written information.
      • Understands medical records and selects suitable references.
      • Interprets patient-specific requests and provides appropriate responses.
    • Drug Knowledge/Disease State Knowledge:
      • Demonstrates comprehension of basic pharmacotherapies.
  • Teaching, Communication:
    • Communication:
      • Effectively communicates with colleagues through documentation.
    • Patient/Health Care Provider Education:
      • Counsels patients and healthcare providers on safe medication use.
      • Prevents and resolves medication-related issues through patient education.

Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
Minimum 3 years of pharmacy experience or 1 year of retail pharmacy experience.
Registered as a licensed pharmacist in the state of Connecticut or eligible for reciprocity.
Member of local, regional, and national pharmacy associations.
Completes at least 15 hours of continuing education annually.
Compliant with departmental and regulatory standards.

Estimated Salary Range: $145,000 - $175,000 per annum based on experience and qualifications
