Overview:
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), through its Office of Space Commerce (OSC), is at the forefront of developing the Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS). This initiative is a direct response to the 2018 US National Space Council's Space Policy Directive 3 (SPD-3), which mandates a comprehensive approach to space traffic management (STM) and coordination (STC) for non-military US space operators.
Role Responsibilities:
- Engage in operations center activities, monitoring and analyzing space traffic data and computational workflows.
- Address operational challenges related to space traffic coordination and technical issues within the operations framework to maintain a secure and stable space environment.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of procedures, operational displays, and job aids necessary for effective operations and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with commercial operators and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of safety services and resolve technical issues as they arise.
- Assist in developing training materials and conducting training sessions for government and commercial operational teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics/Astronomy, Computer Science, or a related discipline with 1 to 6 years of relevant experience in flight dynamics or orbital mechanics.
- Associate's Degree in Engineering, Physics/Astronomy, Computer Science, or a related field with 3 to 8 years of relevant experience.
- Possession of an active Secret Clearance is mandatory.
- Proficiency in software systems, development environments, or programming languages such as Python and Linux.
- Experience in Satellite Operations and Orbital Analysis is essential.
- Familiarity with conjunction analysis for large satellite constellations.
- Ability to interpret Space Situational Awareness (SSA) data and deliver specified services effectively.
- Experience with NASA high-value Resident Space Objects (RSOs) and analyzing orbital state vectors with propagated ephemerides.
