Role Responsibilities

A typical day for a Certified Nursing Aide at Hackensack Meridian Health involves:

  • Delivering patient care according to the Patient Care Plan, which includes activities such as range of motion exercises, mobility assistance, transfer training, feeding support, bed making, personal hygiene, skin assessments, morning and evening care, monitoring vital signs, responding to call bells promptly, post-mortem care, assisting with room transitions, and participating in shift reports.
  • Identifying and reporting any actual or potential issues related to patient care delivery.
  • Ensuring residents utilize prescribed adaptive equipment as needed.
  • Maintaining cleanliness, proper attire, grooming, safety, and nutritional needs of patients during assigned shifts.
  • Implementing restorative nursing practices for assigned patients as directed.
  • Completing all necessary documentation and reports daily in accordance with facility policies and state and federal regulations.
  • Recording patient intake, output, and bowel movements accurately.
  • Promptly reporting any significant changes in patient conditions to the Charge Nurse and communicating relevant information to the RN throughout the shift.
  • Participating in committees as requested by supervisors.
  • Recognizing patient needs and treatment opportunities, providing ongoing services to address those needs.
  • Maintaining professional development and staying updated with Occupational Health trends through continuing education, in-service training, and professional staff sessions.
  • Fostering positive relationships and communication with all team members, patients, families, and visitors.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Completion of an accredited CNA training program.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Current compliance with all Continuing Education (CE) requirements.
  • Professional delivery of clinical care.
  • Acting as a patient advocate and role model for fellow team members.
  • Providing patient care in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in long-term care and rehabilitation settings.
  • Prior experience working with geriatric and disabled populations.
  • Fluency in Spanish.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Valid NJ CNA License.
