POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general oversight, responsible for evaluating risk throughout the underwriting process from submission to policy issuance, encompassing both renewal and new business within designated authority. Collaborating with Underwriters on all facets of the Underwriting process, including supplying the necessary data to enable informed underwriting decisions.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting underwriting evaluations and documentation to assess risk acceptability in line with company policies and standards for both renewal and new business within assigned Underwriting Authority.
  • Managing endorsement requests within authorized limits and referring those outside of authority to the underwriter with suggested actions. Engaging independently with agencies to clarify endorsement intentions or obtain missing information.
  • Overseeing an assigned renewal portfolio within granted authority, demonstrating the ability to prioritize renewal applications/specifications and outline next steps for the underwriter, highlighting necessary changes or points of focus for accounts outside authority.
  • Acting as a liaison within the branch or across CNA to address issues (billing and collections, risk management, underwriting guidance from senior members, line of business, underwriting services experts).
  • Ensuring thorough documentation of assigned files for completeness, compliance, and quality (correspondence, proposals, endorsements, cancellations, etc.).
  • Implementing advanced pricing strategies (i.e., business unit pricing tools) on behalf of the Underwriter, adhering to regulatory and CNA-specific underwriting strategies, and demonstrating the ability to document pricing rationale.
  • Preparing quote proposals and negotiating with external partners within assigned authority.
  • Serving as the primary contact for producers/customers regarding account-related matters while proactively identifying opportunities for upselling or account expansion.
  • Assisting in the marketing of products and services through external partners and participating in field visits.
  • Acting as an expert on systems and workflows, providing support to others (training, problem-solving, coaching) and serving as a conduit for feedback to internal underwriting partners.
  • Staying informed on line of business strategies, state/territory issues, regulations, and industry trends.

Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Reporting Structure:

Reports to Supervisor or Manager.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Proficient understanding of Property and Casualty underwriting, including insurance products, policy processing procedures, and documentation.
  • Excellent time management and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
  • Proven ability to work independently on multiple tasks.
  • Strong capability to mentor and guide others.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience, with the ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals daily, in person, via telephone, and email.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Typically requires a minimum of three years of relevant work experience.
