Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing preventive type HVAC equipment maintenance, repairs, and adjustments to ensure optimal operation of building systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HVAC systems, mechanical maintenance, and building automation systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoots and Repairs HVAC Systems: Troubleshoots and repairs HVAC systems, including air conditioning and heating systems, control systems, and electrical circuits.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Performs preventive type HVAC equipment maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, filter/belt changes, and belt tightening, according to developed preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Building Automation Systems: Routinely uses automated software controls to maintain building temperatures within established parameters and to maximize efficiency of equipment operation.
  • Documentation and Budgeting: Responsible for ensuring that adequate HVAC maintenance inventory is kept on hand and assists in developing budget inputs as pertains to HVAC equipment repair/replacement.
  • Emergency Situations: Provides assistance during emergency situations, such as school closings or inclement weather conditions, or personnel absences as directed by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Education and Training: High School Diploma and Certification as a licensed HVAC Mechanic, Stationary Engineer, or 15 years experience in maintenance of HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: General plumbing skills, ability to read blueprints/technical drawings, thorough knowledge of safe use and care of common hand/power tools, safety requirements, and electrical codes.
  • Physical Requirements: The work is very heavy work which requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
