The Customs Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow of goods across borders by handling customs documentation, resolving issues, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of customs requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Customs Documentation Management: Prepare and review customs documentation, including import and export declarations, to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with customs regulations, including tariff classification, valuation, and country of origin requirements, to minimize delays and maximize efficiency in customs clearance.
  • Issue Resolution: Coordinate with internal teams, clients, customs brokers, and government agencies to resolve customs-related issues and provide guidance on customs procedures.
  • Knowledge Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date knowledge of customs regulations and procedures, as well as changes in customs regulations, trade agreements, and industry practices.
  • Audit and Review: Perform audits and reviews to assess compliance with customs requirements and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Provide guidance and support to colleagues on customs-related matters, handle customs inquiries, investigations, and disputes, and collaborate with customs authorities and participate in customs-related programs.
  • Compliance Development: Support the development and implementation of customs compliance procedures and policies to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in customs operations or customs brokerage.
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of customs regulations, processes, and documentation, as well as import and export operations and customs clearance procedures.
  • Skills: In-depth understanding of customs regulations and requirements, proficiency in preparing and reviewing customs documentation, attention to detail and accuracy in customs declarations and record-keeping, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, and ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in international trade, supply chain management, or a related field.
  • Certification: Certification in customs compliance or a related area.
  • Experience: Experience working with a variety of industries and commodities, familiarity with customs automation systems and software, and experience in customs audits and compliance assessments.
Language Skills
  • Language: Fluent in English (oral and written).
Computer Literacy
  • Software: Proficient in using customs management software and systems, familiarity with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software and technology platforms used in the transportation and logistics industry.
