About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Parks Superintendent to join our team at the City of Redding. As a key member of our Parks Division, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and development of our city's parks and green spaces.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Supervision: Hire, train, schedule, motivate, develop, and evaluate staff to ensure the highest level of performance and productivity.
  • Project Management: Establish goals and standards, assign, prioritize, and monitor work assignments to ensure timely completion and quality results.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Maintain open communication with the Director, employees, other City departments/divisions, public and private agencies, neighbors, and the general public to promote a positive and cooperative working environment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations pertaining to environmental protection, including safe work practices and proper use of materials and equipment.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall mission and goals of the Parks Division.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Typical education includes an Associate in Arts Degree in Ornamental Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field, from an accredited college or university. Typical experience includes five years of relevant experience in parks landscape maintenance or landscape design and architecture, including two years of progressive supervisory experience.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Possession of the appropriate California driver's license (Class A or B Commercial license is desired), or the ability to acquire one within six months of appointment. Desired certifications and licenses include Pest Control Advisor License, Qualified Applicator Certificate, Certified Arborist Certification, Certified Playground Safety Inspector Certification, CPR and First Aid Certificates, and Forklift Operator Certification.
