This pivotal role is part of a forward-thinking initiative aimed at enhancing national security through interdisciplinary research and technology development. The position can be based in various locations within the Commonwealth, contributing to a mission of ensuring a secure and resilient America.
The Senior Research Associate will play a crucial role in leading research and program development within the Intelligent Systems Division (ISD). This division integrates expertise from various fields such as computer science, statistics, machine learning, and systems engineering to tackle complex technological challenges. Ideal candidates will possess a diverse background in areas pertinent to information warfare, including but not limited to: information operations, cyber operations, electronic warfare, non-kinetic targeting, human factors engineering, and decision science; or experience in DoD acquisition processes encompassing research, development, testing, and evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
(1) Lead and manage projects under the Systems Engineering Research Center (SERC) and Acquisition Innovation Research Center (AIRC) to promote advancements in Digital Engineering practices.
(2) Collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance contributions to digital engineering methodologies across the defense sector. Engage with government, industry, and academic stakeholders to influence the future of digital acquisition.
(3) Provide consultation on proposal development and technology roadmaps, supporting ongoing and future research in Systems Engineering for comprehensive product lifecycle management.
(4) Mentor and develop undergraduate and graduate students, fostering practical interdisciplinary experiences in the national security field.
Required Qualifications
• A PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Psychology, or a closely related discipline; or a Master's degree in the same fields with substantial relevant experience.
• Must be a US citizen.
• Capability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• Proven excellence in acquisition and systems engineering processes or strong potential for such excellence.
• Demonstrated experience in model-based systems engineering and associated digital engineering tools.
• Strong communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Active security clearance.
• Experience as a Principal Investigator or senior leader on funded projects, with the ability to lead large teams effectively.
• Proven ability to collaborate with faculty across diverse disciplines.
• Experience in mentoring students, including overseeing internships or service-learning initiatives.
• Commitment to working with a diverse student population.
