Role Summary:
This role is designated for the Advanced Vestibular Rehabilitation Specialist within the Transforming Health & Resilience in Veterans (THRIVE) Program. The THRIVE Program is a community-oriented clinical outreach initiative aimed at delivering specialized care to Veterans affected by traumatic brain injuries (TBI) or post-traumatic stress (PTS) stemming from their service.
The program encompasses a comprehensive three-phase approach: 1) assessment and diagnosis of physical, cognitive, and other health challenges during an intensive 3-day evaluation, 2) treatment of identified conditions through a focused 3-week outpatient program, and 3) ongoing support and follow-up for up to 12 months post-program completion. Annually, the program aims to assist approximately 150 Veterans and provide a referral network for an additional 400 Veterans and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough evaluations and document patient disabilities, while planning and implementing effective physical therapy interventions.
- Supervise and mentor support staff, ensuring high standards of care and adherence to clinical protocols.
- Develop individualized treatment plans tailored to meet the unique needs of each patient.
- Maintain accurate documentation for billing and statistical purposes in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Engage in clinical program development and management, contributing to the overall success of the THRIVE Program.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Expertise in vestibular rehabilitation, particularly in the context of mild traumatic brain injuries and concussions.
- Experience in both inpatient and outpatient neurological rehabilitation settings.
- A commitment to patient-centered care and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Skills in evaluating and treating balance impairments, dizziness, and other sensory integration challenges.
- Knowledge of cervicogenic impairments is preferred.
Educational and Licensure Requirements:
• Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy program.
• Active licensure as a Physical Therapist in the state of North Carolina.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Professional Experience:
• A minimum of five years of experience as a licensed Physical Therapist, including at least one year in a specialized field.
Work Environment:
This position is part of a dedicated team at UNC Health Care, focused on providing exceptional care to Veterans. The role requires a commitment to professional excellence and a passion for improving patient outcomes.
