  • Community Support Services, Inc. is currently looking for a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at the Marcia D. Smith School, a community-based, non-public educational institution catering to adolescents with autism. Each student is provided with a tailored educational plan that includes extensive support.
    The curriculum emphasizes practical work and life skills within community settings, focusing on facilitating transitions to adult services.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Designing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with parents, students, behavioral specialists, medical personnel, and related service providers.
    • Delivering engaging and age-appropriate instruction, ensuring necessary adaptations and resources are utilized.
    • Fostering effective communication among families, therapists, medical staff, and behavioral teams to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration.
    • Monitoring and documenting student progress on IEP goals and overseeing the collection of behavioral data.
    • Creating and managing daily and weekly schedules that incorporate educational activities, outings, and special events.
    • Supervising and assessing the performance of instructional aides who provide direct support to students.
  • The Marcia D. Smith School operates year-round, following the MCPS school calendar for its day program, while also offering 24-hour educational services through its residential program. Community Support Services, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive support to children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities in Montgomery County, Maryland. Established in 1994, CSS collaborates with families and agencies to develop innovative service models, in addition to running the Marcia D. Smith School, which includes community-based residential, day, employment, and recreational services.
Qualifications:
  • Schedule: Full-time, 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 1 year in special education is preferred.
  • Certification: Maryland Teaching Certification is preferred.
  • Work Environment: In-person position.
