POSITION SUMMARY

This role involves coaching for seasonal Adaptive Sports programs aimed at individuals with disabilities. The primary focus is to provide effective instruction and guidance in various sports, fostering an inclusive environment for both youth and adults. Responsibilities include leading and coaching Adaptive Sports initiatives, ensuring the development and enhancement of programs such as baseball, basketball, and soccer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Guide and instruct youth aged 5-17 in a supportive and non-competitive atmosphere.
  • Oversee the inventory of equipment and supplies, ensuring that all necessary materials are available for program execution.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Adaptive Recreation Supervisor to address program needs and challenges.
  • Manage logistics including the transportation of equipment to various program sites.
  • Set up and dismantle program activities as required.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records for all participants.
  • Adapt sports skills and activities to accommodate the diverse needs of participants.
  • Foster a safe and welcoming environment for all involved.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

A background in Adaptive Physical Education or a related field is required, along with a minimum of three years of experience in coaching or instructing adaptive sports for youth and adults. Experience working with individuals with disabilities is essential.

Certifications:

  • Possession of current Red Cross certifications for CPR and Standard First Aid may be required, with training available if necessary.
  • A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is mandatory.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of developmental disabilities and child development principles.
  • Ability to modify programs to meet participant needs creatively and flexibly.
  • Knowledge of inclusion services and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills when interacting with participants, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to identify and address barriers to participant success through reasonable accommodations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires light physical effort, including lifting and carrying objects weighing between 5-35 pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of sitting or standing, and the ability to perceive visual cues is necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is typically performed in a safe environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
