Responsibilities:

POSITION SUMMARY:
AMD is on the lookout for a SoC Emulation Specialist to become a vital part of our Data Center GPU division. Our offerings cater to the rapidly expanding Data Center and High-Performance Computing (HPC) ecosystem.

In this role, you will play a crucial part in the Platform Emulation team, focusing on the development of emulation infrastructure, as well as the execution and debugging of essential firmware utilized in our HPC and machine learning products.

Your responsibilities will also include crafting test plans and executing test cases to improve silicon test coverage, providing training and support to validation teams on emulation technologies, and constructing and executing industry-standard HPC benchmarks and applications on the emulator.


IDEAL CANDIDATE:


As a SoC Emulation Specialist, you will have the chance to engage with cutting-edge System on Chip (SoC) architecture and technology, participating in the creation of emulation infrastructure that facilitates pre-silicon activities to guarantee high-quality silicon and swift market entry.

You will collaborate with a team of forward-thinking engineers to support the rollout of AMD's Instinct machine learning products aimed at supercomputers and data center workloads.


KEY DUTIES
Firmware/OS bring-up and debugging using state-of-the-art emulators (Veloce, Zebu, Palladium)

Develop, modify, and enhance functional and stress tests to identify silicon defects on the emulator

Collaborate with the Central Emulation team to assist in developing, debugging, and establishing the CPU/GPU Emulation environment.

Provide leadership in debugging, contribute to test plans, and execute hands-on testing

Work with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot the environment, drive collaborative testing (Firmware, Software, Diagnostics/tools, Validation, Applications)

Analyze failures with design, verification, firmware, software, and emulation teams

Research and implement new tools and infrastructure to bolster emulation efforts

Run and gather data for analysis on AMD's advanced emulators and simulation models

Create scripts/tools to interpret data from emulation processes

Instrument firmware code to facilitate failure debugging

Collect functional and performance data for HPC workloads

Participate in weekly meetings, status updates, and presentations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Extensive experience with emulation platforms such as Veloce, Zebu, or Palladium (compilation, debugging, performance, and throughput optimization)

Proven debugging experience, particularly in hardware/software co-debug environments

Ability to trace code across multiple domains and identify root causes using waveforms and other tracing tools

Familiarity with Verilog and VHDL design

Knowledge of System Verilog and UVM verification environments is advantageous

Understanding of computer hardware architecture (Graphics cards, CPU/APU, memory, bus logic, and display technologies)

Insight into computer software architecture and boot processes (bootrom, firmware, BIOS, device drivers, OS)

Knowledge of HPC, parallel programming (OpenMP, OpenMPI), and heterogeneous platforms comprising CPU and GPU is a plus

Experience with networking and Ethernet is beneficial

Proficient in Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting

Experience in building and installing software packages on Linux platforms is a plus

Programming skills in C, C++, Python, Tcl, Ruby, and assembly (ARM & x86)

Familiarity with bug tracking tools such as Jira

Strong oral and written communication skills

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, with a minimum of 7+ years of relevant experience
