Our software and firmware teams are integral in delivering seamless battery backup systems and smart energy management integrations across various Generac products.

Our methodology embraces a comprehensive approach, promoting close collaboration among teams across all layers, from firmware to web and mobile applications. Our technology stack on AWS encompasses GQL, gRPC, Java, Go, TypeScript, MQTT, Terraform, and a diverse array of AWS services.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and develop backend applications and integrations for an upcoming mobile application. This role involves addressing identity and data model integration challenges, connecting backend systems, creating scalable APIs, and establishing unified gateway layers for application development teams. This is a significant opportunity to contribute to both existing systems and the creation of new systems from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect requirements, engage with stakeholders across Generac, and devise effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with product management, infrastructure, operations, mobile/web application teams, firmware teams, and embedded software teams as necessary.
  • Document assumptions and requirements, present proposals, iterate on feedback, gain stakeholder buy-in, and set clear expectations for deliverables.
  • Design, validate, implement, and test web services on AWS utilizing Java, Go, TypeScript, or Python.
  • Develop comprehensive, fully automated testing suites across all levels of the technology stack.
  • Proactively mentor and support junior engineers.
  • Contribute to a culture of pragmatic excellence within the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in software engineering.
  • Familiarity with a variety of products or services on at least one major cloud platform.
  • 2+ years of experience in at least one of Java, Go, or server-side TypeScript.
  • 2+ years of experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
  • Deep expertise in at least one of Java, Go, TypeScript, or Python.
  • Demonstrated excellence in end-to-end testing practices, ensuring solutions are validated and reliable.
  • Methodical approach to deployments, ensuring low-stress rollouts through extensive pre-deployment testing and techniques like feature flags.
  • A strong desire to understand the broader context of your work within a cross-disciplinary system.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and mentorship, actively seeking feedback and fostering the growth of junior engineers.

Physical Requirements: The role necessitates regular communication and manual dexterity. Employees may need to stand, walk, bend, or reach overhead occasionally. The position may require lifting up to 25 pounds. The job involves frequent computer-based work, necessitating periods of sitting and close visual focus. Occasional travel may be required.
