Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Registered Nurse to join our team at Houston Methodist Primary Care Group. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care, leading clinical activities, and mentoring department staff.

Responsibilities
  • Provide professional direct patient nursing care to a diverse patient population, including patients with complex needs.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities, including leading department clinical activities and assessing department needs related to practice and improvement opportunities.
  • Coach and mentor department staff in areas of clinical and professional practice, including effective verbal, non-verbal, and written communication.
  • Collaborate with the interprofessional healthcare team to foster healthy relationships in the work environment and promote positive behaviors.
  • Drive improvement of department scores for employee engagement, patient satisfaction, and quality/safety measures.
  • Identify areas of practice improvements with research-based evidence and implement changes to achieve quality measures and patient safety outcomes.
  • Model the standards of care related to the nursing process, regulatory requirements, and professional practice.
  • Participate in initiatives to improve quality and safety scores, including reporting near misses and identifying solutions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing or Associate's degree from an accredited school of nursing with an additional two years of nursing experience.
  • Three years of nursing experience, with one year in specialty preferred.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure within 60 days.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA).
  • Other credentials and certifications as defined by department/service line.

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Strong assessment, organizational, and problem-solving skills as evidenced by capacity to prioritize multiple tasks and role components.
  • Ability to function independently and exercise judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team, and patients and their families.
