Job Summary

The City of Belton is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Water Services Division Utility Worker to join our team. As a key member of our Public Works Department, you will be responsible for performing skilled cleaning, repair, inspection, and maintenance work of the City's water and sewer system and pump stations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform sewer line, pump station, and point repair and maintenance, including cleaning and root cutting with the Jet-Vac truck.
  • Operate a variety of equipment and machinery in performing tasks, including vacuum pumps, plumbing, probes, floats, and water separators.
  • Repair manholes, replace damaged lids, frames, metal and concrete rings and seals with pressure grout, and raise manholes to grade.
  • Conduct televising with push camera of sewer mains for obstructions and damage, dig ditches, construct safety shoring to repair sewer mains, and repair service lines and reconnect to the sewer main.
  • Monitor creeks and streams for pollution and dumping, and perform fence and gate repairs as needed.
  • Assist the Engineering Department on sewer line installation and inspection, assist contractors with troubleshooting and repairs of facility and pump stations, and assist with large-scale sewer televising operations.
  • Repair and construct concrete encasements around sewer main in the creeks, rip-rap creeks to protect encasements, set up forms and put down rock, pour concrete for driveways and sidewalks, and monitor sewer flow and download data logs on laptop computer.
Water Division Responsibilities
  • Repair water breaks, perform water taps, dig up and replace water pits, and lay sod for water breaks.
  • Perform turn off and turn on of customer's water, respond and reply to customer complaints and concerns, and locate water utilities and lines for customer requests.
  • Take water samples from several areas in the city and forward to the State, test water meters for customers, exercise water main valves, inspect fire hydrants to ensure they are working properly, and inspect and clean pump stations.
  • Train new employees as needed, and inspect and clean all water division properties.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Respond and troubleshoot odor calls from residents, install and repair facility water lines (fresh and effluent), repair facility fixtures, toilets, urinals, sinks, and lighting, mark sewer and water lines for Missouri One Call, perform other minor facility upkeep and repairs such as painting and fiberglass repair, and maintain all equipment, small engine repairs, tune-ups, oil and filter changes.
  • Plow snow, mow, weeds, trim trees, and perform tree removal around grounds, facilities, and fire hydrants, and unload heavy parts and materials needed at the facility.
  • Assist other municipalities in emergency repairs, pump station and culverts repairs and maintenance.
  • Support the relationship between the City of Belton and the constituent population by providing excellent customer service, promote the City goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures, maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records and City information, and perform related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Possession of a valid Class B State Commercial Driver's License with air brakes within six months of hire.
  • Other licenses/certifications such as Wastewater Class D License, Distribution System Operator III License, and Voluntary Collection Systems Certificate may be required within a specific time period after hire.
Physical Requirements
  • This position is required to perform physical activities ranging from lifting large, heavy objects up to 80lbs.
  • Being regularly exposed to dangerous machinery, being exposed to potential physical harm, and working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
