Job Summary:
The InsideHigherEd Software Development Librarian will play a key role in advancing library services through applied research and application development. This position will manage the entire life cycle of projects, from requirements gathering to deployment, and provide technical leadership and hands-on programming expertise for a portfolio of library projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain digital library services through an iterative, data-informed, and test-driven process that emphasizes creativity, usability, sustainability, and performance.
- Collaborate closely with Libraries Information Technology staff to develop and maintain supporting infrastructure.
- Participate in library planning and serve on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams.
- Contribute to developments in the field and stay up-to-date with current and emerging digital technologies.
- Foster an environment of belonging and well-being, and communicate clearly and knowledgeably with colleagues and stakeholders.
Requirements:
- ALA-accredited MLS, MIS, or other relevant advanced degree.
- Potential to develop expertise in current and emerging digital technologies.
- Web application development experience with one or more server-side programming languages such as PHP, Python, or Ruby.
- Experience using client-side web technologies including HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and related technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing database-backed applications.
- Knowledge of user-centered design processes.
- Experience working in an academic library.
Working Conditions:
This position is based in a remote work environment and requires a strong internet connection and a quiet workspace.
