Position Title: Shop Foreman / Lead Automotive Technician

Overview:

The Shop Foreman / Lead Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the workshop by managing workflow and allocating tasks among technicians. This position collaborates closely with the Service Manager to maintain high standards of quality in vehicle repairs and overall shop productivity.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with the service department to assign tasks to technicians.
  • Oversee and manage the workload of individual technicians to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Guide technicians through internal training and assist them in preparing for certification exams.
  • Provide training and mentorship to new technicians.
  • Assist technicians in diagnosing and repairing vehicles, especially in cases of misdiagnosis or for professional development.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews to track career goals and assess technician performance.
  • Facilitate team-building activities for the technician group.
  • Educate the technician team on brand standards and effective troubleshooting methods to address customer concerns promptly.
  • Manage inventory of shop supplies and equipment.
  • Monitor fluid levels and shop efficiency through technician hours and ticket audits.
  • Oversee subscriptions for diagnostic tools.
  • Assign housekeeping duties to promote a safe and organized work environment.
  • Manage technician schedules and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with the service department regarding customer issues and assist in resolving complaints.

Qualifications:
  • Positive demeanor with a commitment to customer service.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in automotive repair.
  • Strong automotive diagnostic capabilities.
  • Investment in personal tools.
  • Ability to meet or exceed a workload of 30+ hours per week based on shop requirements.
  • ASE A1-A8 Certifications are mandatory; Master L1 is preferred.
  • Proficient in diagnosing and repairing a variety of vehicle makes and models.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve hourly performance targets.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and processes.
  • Professional appearance and effective communication skills.
  • Desire for long-term career advancement.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and/or move items weighing over 50 pounds.
  • Capability to work with tools on vehicles positioned overhead.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces as required by vehicle repairs.
  • Dexterity to efficiently handle hand tools.
  • Ability to stand or walk for the majority of the workday.
  • Skill in driving manual transmission vehicles.
  • Proficient in navigating computer systems.
