Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our team at the ASPCA's Adoption Center. As a key member of our medical team, you will provide high-quality care to animals in need, working closely with veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Provide compassionate care and assistance to animals, including examinations, treatments, and monitoring
  • Assist with nursing care and veterinary support, including low-stress handling and restraint techniques
  • Maintain accurate and timely data entry to animals' medical records
  • Prepare samples for submission to laboratories and follow up as needed
  • Support sedated examinations and minor procedures, including handling for injections and monitoring during recovery
  • Ensure animals' physical and behavioral needs are met, providing husbandry tasks, observation, and reporting of signs of illness or injury
  • Work efficiently and calmly under challenging conditions, demonstrating flexibility with work assignments and unique tasks
Requirements
  • Knowledge of basic animal care, handling, and disease recognition
  • Able to understand and communicate using veterinary medical terminology
  • Experience and knowledge of low-stress animal handling and restraint techniques
  • Possess customer service skills to interact with fosters and adopters
  • Strong organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail
  • Able to maintain open mind regarding changes and be willing to learn, implement, and teach new protocols
Benefits
