We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our team at the ASPCA's Adoption Center. Responsibilities- Provide compassionate care and assistance to animals, including examinations, treatments, and monitoring
- Assist with nursing care and veterinary support, including low-stress handling and restraint techniques
- Maintain accurate and timely data entry to animals' medical records
- Prepare samples for submission to laboratories and follow up as needed
- Support sedated examinations and minor procedures, including handling for injections and monitoring during recovery
- Ensure animals' physical and behavioral needs are met, providing husbandry tasks, observation, and reporting of signs of illness or injury
- Work efficiently and calmly under challenging conditions, demonstrating flexibility with work assignments and unique tasks
- Knowledge of basic animal care, handling, and disease recognition
- Able to understand and communicate using veterinary medical terminology
- Experience and knowledge of low-stress animal handling and restraint techniques
- Possess customer service skills to interact with fosters and adopters
- Strong organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail
- Able to maintain open mind regarding changes and be willing to learn, implement, and teach new protocols
