Job Summary

Towson University, a top 100 public university, is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient care in an ambulatory urgent care setting. The selected candidate will assist physicians and other practitioners with patient care, provide office laboratory services, and perform various administrative tasks.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Process patients for appointments, taking vital signs and health history
  • Aid with in-office procedures, perform 12 lead EKG, administer nebulization treatments, and other similar tasks
  • Administer oral and injectable medications as ordered by the provider
  • Perform in-house labs, including Rapid Mono, Rapid Strep, Rapid HIV, Rapid Influenza tests, COVID-PCR test, Rapid COVID-19 test, and Urinalysis
  • Maintain lab supplies and perform quality assurance testing as directed by the laboratory director
  • Clean and stock exam rooms, clean and sterilize instruments and equipment, and dispose of medical waste
  • Start and maintain IV access for patients and check AED weekly
Qualifications and Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent and successful completion of an accredited program for Medical Assistants or equivalent
  • General knowledge of HIPPA, electronic medical record systems, aseptic techniques, and CPR certification
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for communicating with patients, pharmacies, radiology facilities, and other office staff
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform EKG's, Spirometry, and Nebulization treatments
  • Knowledge of fitting splints and crutches and experience in cleaning and sterilizing medical equipment
