Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the safe transportation of students from various pickup sites to their final destinations in a timely manner. The School Bus Driver CDL will ensure the reliability of vehicles used in the transportation of students.

Key Responsibilities:

Sign-in for morning and afternoon runs
Conduct daily pre-checks and post-checks of vehicles
Perform step-by-step checks as stipulated by State and company policy
Check fluid and gas levels, and fill as needed
Report any problems or deficiencies of vehicles
Ensure safety features of each vehicle are in working order
Maintain vehicle cleanliness and upkeep (driver and aide will assist with SPED only)
Follow rules and regulations governing personal appearance, conduct, and vehicle use
Familiarize yourself with rules applicable to student pick-up and release
Complete all required forms for reporting occurrences on/off vehicles, observations of children, and problems that transpire on the bus
Provide exceptional customer service to schools, students, and the community
Attend all required training sessions in full uniform
Assume additional related responsibilities as assigned

Working Conditions/Job Environment:

This position requires the ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. The worker must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. The job also requires stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting for extended periods. The worker must be able to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately. The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform activities such as operating and repairing machines/equipment. The worker is subject to both environmental conditions, including activities that occur inside and outside, and hazards such as proximity of moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and exposure to heat. The worker is also subject to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system and skin, including fumes, odors, dust, mists, and gases. Some remote work may be necessary.

Requirements:

High School diploma or GED, or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum age to drive: 21 years old
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to speak effectively and communicate on several levels (adults, children, management)
Ability to pass a DOT physical
Valid driver's license, clean Hawaii Driver History Record, and Criminal Abstract
Ability to upgrade to CDL
First Aid, CPR Certified
Pass DDC (Defensive Driving Course)
Meet and adhere to all requirements of FMCSA, DOT, FTA, and DOE as applicable
Learn and pass test on Title 19
Ability to work flexible shifts, 24/7 availability for Midday and Late runs
Position requires working under deadlines and/or pressure
Requires expertise in dealing with people and situations involving complex issues
Requires compliance with company Substance Abuse Policy and DOT Controlled Substances and Alcohol Use and Testing regulation
Requires communicating effectively orally and in writing
Speaking with school officials, teachers, company supervisor
