Job Summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a highly skilled Senior Trading Analyst to join our team. As a key member of our trading operations, you will be responsible for designing and performing complex quantitative studies to optimize energy trading strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership in trading strategies, plant operations, market analysis, modeling issues, decision analysis, and trade floor processes.
  • Quantitative Analysis: Design and perform complex quantitative studies of historical and forecasted prices, system loads, fuel costs, and determination of the natural position of Xcel Energy's power system portfolios.
  • Trading and Risk Management: Support trading and risk management activities through quantifying the natural position of each Xcel Energy regulated operating company.
  • System Optimization: Identify opportunities to improve system operations, design and create analytical studies to model opportunities and determine costs/savings.
  • Modeling and Analysis: Create and run modeling scenarios to optimize daily unit commitment, additional purchases/sales, and long-term energy limited or constrained seasonal purchases.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Support regulatory compliance and assist regulatory teams with analysis, write testimony as needed and appear as an expert witness.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in mathematics, engineering, applied sciences, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 8 years experience in operating mathematical models, data mining, and analytics, at least 2 years of experience with energy trading operations, including LMP markets.
  • Preferred Requirements: Master's degree, previous work experience in electricity industry, including knowledge of power plant operations, experience with generation cost modeling tools such as Plexos, Aurora, Prosym, GenTrader, or Promod.
