Position Objective:


The Regional Healthcare Assistant Float is a clinical position responsible for both administrative and clinical duties, including managing patient records, preparing patients and examination rooms, assisting healthcare providers during examinations, and performing front-desk operations.

This role is critical as it involves direct patient interaction and medication administration.

The individual will report to the Office Manager (or equivalent) at their primary clinic and will travel within their designated region to provide support to healthcare providers while ensuring positive patient experiences.


Core Responsibilities:
Welcome and prepare patients for provider examinations by gathering comprehensive patient history, chief complaints, current medications, medical history, allergies, surgical history, family history, social history, and other preventive health reviews; measure patients' vital signs and document information in the electronic medical record.

Assist healthcare providers with examinations, treatments, and procedures as instructed.

Maintain accurate and thorough records electronically in the EMR system.

Measure and document vital signs and record them in the EMR.

Professionally manage all front-desk operations, including answering phone calls, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, addressing routine inquiries, and triaging calls.

Ensure patient medical records are maintained in accordance with organizational policies.

Communicate treatment procedures, medications, diets, or provider instructions to patients.

Prepare both patients and examination rooms for assessments.


Conduct patient follow-up calls, including proactive care coordination, medication reminders, appointment reminders, transitional care management, and complete documentation of telephone encounters.

Support both patients and providers during procedures by handing instruments or equipment to the healthcare provider as directed.

Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment post-use and dispose of contaminated materials appropriately.

Perform clinical tasks such as administering oral and injectable medications, irrigating eyes and ears, dressing and bandaging wounds and incisions, starting and monitoring IV infusions, and assisting healthcare providers with various procedures as requested.


Conduct in-office diagnostic tests, including eye exams, electrocardiograms, administering oxygen as ordered, pulse oximetry, peak flow, and inhalation treatments.

Perform in-office CLIA-waived laboratory tests.

Carry out quality control measures related to laboratory equipment and testing, maintain lab-related logs, perform PT/INR using CoaguChek/Coag Sense machines, and conduct glucose testing using glucometers.

Accurately complete electronic medical records to include medical services rendered, test results, and supplies utilized.

Monitor inventory of disposable medical supplies and place orders as necessary.

Draw blood and process specimens for external testing.

Provide patient education as directed by the healthcare provider.


Assist with front office tasks by performing additional clerical duties, including patient check-in/out, referrals, prescription medication management, and inbound/outbound telephone calls.

Help maintain an adequate inventory of office medications and medical supplies and order as needed.

Assist in onboarding and training new team members.

Help manage inventory and maintain office supplies.

Travel within the region approximately 85% of the time.

Additional duties as assigned.

Position Requirements/Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred (RMA or CMA).

A minimum of 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant.

CPR certification preferred.

IV Start Certification preferred.

Phlebotomy experience preferred (knowledge of various collection methods and testing, such as bleeding times, collecting donor blood, bedside testing, and preparing specimens).

Knowledge of medical coding preferred.

Familiarity with HIPAA regulations preferred.

Understanding of OSHA standards preferred.

Working knowledge of common prescription medications that treat conditions and diseases for the assigned patient population.

Basic computer skills, including familiarity with electronic medical records.

Must demonstrate excellent telephone and switchboard etiquette.

Proficient with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for collaborative work.

Physical Requirements:
Full range of body motion, including handling and transferring patients, manual and finger dexterity; including eye-hand coordination.

Requires standing, walking, pushing, bending, kneeling, and reaching at arm's length and overhead in a clinical setting for extended periods.

Requires the ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods.

Must be able to lift and move patients and medical equipment as necessary.

Requires the ability to lift/carry up to 15 lbs.

Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges.

Ability to sit for extended periods.

Ability to operate a computer and telephone.

Must have reliable transportation.
